Medieval reenactors are very serious about their craft. To embody the noble spirit of the Dark Ages is to never break character under any circumstance. Ask a knight where the bathroom is, and they’ll point you in the direction of the nearest public garderobe. Try to snap a photo of the gentry with your smartphone, and they’ll confusedly inquire about the alchemic properties of your curious talisman.
So when a lowly peasant tried to film a battle reenactment with their drone in Lipetsk, central Russia, one heroic crusader heard his call of duty, and impaled the wretched flying machine with a spear.
Ouch.
Considering the visible parking lot and portable toilets in the background, this is a pretty mediocre medieval fair we’re dealing with here. Sure, drones aren’t canon, but neither are rows of Subarus parked behind a phalanx of encroaching invaders. It’s not entirely clear which historical event is being replicated (the Russo-Kazan Wars are one candidate), but apparently Russians are quite fond of battle reenactments, so it’s understandable that emotions might’ve been running high.
As YouTube commenter VideosAreDrugs wisely put it: “So? If anything the guy who brought the drone is the asshole drones make a fck ton of noise, plus its a medieval reenactment why the hell would you take a drone there, people take things hella serious in things like this, bet if you took that drone to a world war 2 reenactment sht would get shot down freaking idiot :p ”
Indeed, despite the reenactment’s not-wholly-authentic setting, the drone was just one step too far. And as the helmeted warrior pushes his way through a flank of militia to deal with the pesky thing once and for all, you can’t help but root for him a little.
Hats off to the actor for being an expert in Historical European Martial Arts or something, because his aim was true, and the drone never stood a chance.
It’s unclear whether the UAV survived the fly another day.
